OMAFRA: Making the most of glyphosate applications

Higher input costs and lower supply due to supply chain issues have many farmers reconsidering their chemical management plans, including their use of glyphosate. Mike Cowbrough, field crop weed management specialist with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), notes the following questions are most common:

  • How do I optimize the performance of glyphosate, and can I reduce rates and still achieve good weed control?
  • Should I be adding AMS to glyphosate?
  • Are there other herbicides that could be added to lower rates of glyphosate?

Cowbrough answers these questions by referencing product labels and peer-reviewed scientific literature, breaking down reduced (but still effective) rates by annual and perennial weeds for which glyphosate products are registered, and in which situations and on which weeds it might make sense to add AMS (or another herbicide) to glyphosate. |READ MORE
